Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| The Use of Raman Fluorescence Technology to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Remineralization of Solid Tooth Tissue

Image
Authored by  Alexandrov MT Introduction Tooth enamel is the most mineralized tissue of the body. Composition - 96 wt. % inorganic matter and 4 wt. % of organic matter and water. Inorganic the substance mainly consists of calcium phosphate associated with hydroxyapatite, the chemical formula of which is [Ca10 (PO4) 6 (OH) 2]. The presence of hydroxyapatite is confirmed by the presence of its spectral bands in the hard tissues of the tooth [1]. It is believed that Raman spectroscopy allows you to objectively evaluate spectral bands associated with specific chemical structures of tooth hard tissues [2,3]. So currently this technology can be considered preferable in the study of remineralization of teeth [4-10]. The purpose of our study is to determine the effectiveness of the Raman-fluorescent method of diagnosing the remineralization of hard tooth tissues using demineralizing pastes, gel, suspension and rinse aid. Materials and Methods In this pre-clinical in vitro stu...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Research of The Effect of Saliva and Hygiene Products for Oral Cavity with the Use of The Indicators of Mineralization of Hard Tooth Tissues of Various Functional Groups

Image
Authored by  Alexandrov MT Abstract Aim:   In vitro  using Raman-fluorescence spectroscopy study the effect of saliva and hygiene products for oral cavity on the mineralization indicators of various anatomical and topographic zones of the teeth for their various functional groups, justify its clinical expediency and effectivity. Methods:  In preclinical  In vitro  study on 90 model tooth test objects (incisors, premolars and molars) removed according to clinical indications, Raman-Fluorescence study of the degree of mineralization (Raman characteristics spectrum) was conducted and violation of the hygienic condition of the teeth (the presence of plaque and its fluorescence intensity) in various functional groups of teeth was also investigated. For the registration of the studied parameters APK “InSpectr M” with a wavelength probe radiation of 532 nm was used. Advantages of Raman Fluorescent spectroscopy for determining the degree of mineralizat...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Indispensable for Preventıve Dentistry: Fissure Sealants

Image
Authored by  Arife Kaptan Abstract Fissure Sealants are materials that are applied to the pits and fissures in tooth in preventing tooth cavities. The success of the fissure sealants depends on degree of binding with tooth surface and isolating capacity the pit and fissures from the mouth environment. The purpose of this review is to investigate the reasons for applying fissure sealants, application technique and types of fissure sealants. Keywords: Fissure sealants; Glass carbomer; Pediatric dentistry Introduction In recent years, the greatest interest of modern dentistry; it focuses on reducing the risk of caries, preventive practices, and non-invasive conservative techniques where dental structures are protected as much as possible [1]. In previous caries research, occlusal surfaces have been found to susceptible to caries due to pits and fissures resulting from anatomical structures. Especially in children and young people, caries are...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Prevalence and Pattern of Third Molar Impaction in Sample of Yemeni Adults

Image
Authored by  Hassan Abdulwahab Al-Shamahy Abstract Background and objectives: Third molar impaction is an important clinical issue because impacted teeth predispose to periodontal disease such as pericoronitis, periodontitis, and other problems such as cystic lesions, neoplasm, root resorption and can cause detrimental effects on adjacent tooth resulting in pain, discomfort and loss of function. The pattern of third molar impaction in Yemeni population has not been described; thus, the aim of this retrospective radiographic study was to determine the prevalence and pattern of third molar impaction, angulation and level of eruption in sample of Yemeni adults. Materials and methods: The study sample of 609 patients chosen randomly from patients who visited MASS x-ray centers in Sana’a and Ibb cities. The data collected included presence and impaction state, angulation, and depth of impaction of third molars. Results: Out of total population, 236 (38.8%) ...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Bulk Fill Composites

Image
Authored by Alper Kaptan Abstract The novel use of a Manuka honey incorporated dental membrane for tissue regeneration warrants investigation. In this study, we aResin materials named as bulk fill composite such as low shrinkage stress and their revealing good edge conformity in accordance and their having sufficient radiopacity, their showing sufficient resistance against chewing strengths at posterior region, and their having the feature of being well polished as an aesthetic aspect, have enabled them to be preferred by physicians. The purpose of this review is to give general information about bulk fill composites. Introduction Limitation of polymerization depth of composites that are polymerized with light and the requirement to apply them with layers, comes in front of us as an important disadvantage in today’s conditions where it is tried to shorten clinical operating time. This thickness has been determined to be maximum 2 mm by conside...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Communication Strategies for Reducing Patient Anxiety in Pedodontics Dentistry

Image
Authored by Jim Schnell Introduction This article will discuss the use of selected communication behaviors for reducing the level of anxiety experienced by child dental patients. The main areas to be covered are communication within dentistry, communication with children in the dental environment, and approaches for reducing anxiety experienced by child dental patients. Dentists comprise the second largest group of primary, directservice health practitioners in the country [1]. Little has been written on communication between dental professionals and their patients, in comparison with other primary health care areas. Dental communication is unique, in comparison with other health care areas, as there is a lack of urgency in everyday interactions. Dental care is rarely a matter of life and death [2]. A problem more prevalent in dentistry than in most of medicine is pain, or more specifically, the fear of pain. This reaction to dental work is partially one of fear of the u...
