Authored by  Vidhya J, Introduction Edentulism is considered as a poor health outcome and it often compromises the quality of life of edentulous people [1]. Complete edentulism is a condition that is most prevalent among the elderly population [1,2]. It has a negative impact on the masticatory function, speech, esthetics and on the quality of life. The prosthetic management of the completely edentulous patient has been a major challenge in dentistry [3,4]. Conventional complete denture have been a standard and classical treatment option for the completely edentulous patients for more than a century [1,3,5]. Conventional complete denture is commonly provided to completely edentulous patients to restore masticatory function and esthetics [1,5]. The complete denture wearers often encounter problems like difficulty in mastication, discomfort during speech along with poor stability and retention [1,5,6]. They are usually satisfied with the upper denture but the majority of them o...

Iris Publishers - Online Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health| Prosthodontic Rehabilitation of Missing Molar using Friction Fit Zirconia Crown Over Dual One Piece Implants-Clinical Report and I Year Follow Up

Authored by  Hariharan Ramakrishnan, Introduction Implantation is a preferred choice to replace a missing single tooth, avoiding adjacent vital teeth preparation and fixed prosthesis fabrication [1]. The most frequent mandibular molar to be replaced is the first mandibular molar. Implantation in the posterior area is a predictable procedure over time [2]. The low rate of complications in addition to the high long term success rate makes implant restoration a reliable solution to treat posterior partial edentulism [3]. The use of two implants to replace a single molar seems a logical treatment solution to avoid prosthetic complications associated with two part implants. yet, one significant disadvantage to the use of this concept is the limitation of the size of implants and their associated prosthetic components [4]. There are different definitions for the narrow diameter implant (NDI), starting from small body implant, implant with a reduced endosseous diameter and narrow b...

Authored by  Chaza Kouchaji, Introduction ECC experience is defined as the presence of one or more decayed (noncavitated or cavitated lesions), missing (due to caries) or filled tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child aged 71 months or younger [1]. ECC is the most commonly observed chronic disease in children [2]. ECC continues to be pandemic disease according to World Health Organization. The prevalence generally ranges from 27%-48%, with more than 76% reported from the Middle East [3]. While in Syria the burden of ECC amongst Syrian children aged 3-5 years was dmft value of 4.25 ± 4.2 per child [4]. Main risk factors that contribute to the formation of ECC were microbiological, environmental and dietary factors [5]. The clinical appearance of the teeth in S-ECC in a child 2, 3, or 4 years of age is typical and follows a definite pattern. There is early carious involvement of the maxillary anterior teeth, the maxillary and mandibular first primary molars, and sometim...
